Carnavalet Museum in Paris is temporarily closed

Carnavalet Museum in Paris is located in the prestigious quarter of Paris and the Marais is a magnificent mansion built in the XVI century French architect Pierre Lescot and sculptor. In 1578 the house became a wealthy widow from Brittany Francoise de Kernevenua - on the distorted name of the new owner of the mansion got its name. In different years, lived in the house many famous people, but the greatest glory he received in the years 1677-1696, when his mistress was the Marquise de Sevigne - writer, author of "Letters", the most famous works in French literature epistolary genre. In the XIX century, housed in the Carnavalet college road and bridge construction, and in 1886 it acquired the municipal administration under the Paris Historical Library and Museum. Now here under one roof is collected history of Paris, as embodied in documents, art works and photographs. The entrance to the halls of the permanent exhibition is free.
