Venetians turned to UNESCO to make the List of World Heritage famous gondolas. Thus the city is trying to maintain a classic look of these boats. As Lenta.ru reports citing agency ANSA, has already received an invitation to make a gondola made of plastic. Venice Gondola Association is outraged like sacrilege: Traditionally, these boats were made of wood and had a strict size - 11 meters in length and 1.4 meters at its widest point. Gondolas were for centuries the main means of transportation on canals of Venice and are considered as the symbol of this city. The very city of Venice and the lagoon, in which it is included in the number of World Heritage in 1987.
