Postojna - Yama (Slovenian Karst)

Important concepts borrowed from Slavic languages ??mainly two branches of geology: soil science (the term "black earth", who came from Russia) and karst geology. Karst Slovenes called bare arid limestone mountains. Geologists have transferred the concept of "Karst" in all areas of the globe where there are karst phenomena. Common on plateau of the Karst of Yugoslavia in the name of "Valley" (small kettle depressions), "ridges" for medium-sized, "Polje" for the vast flat valleys, "Ponor" for sinkholes that suddenly disappear River, now used in other karst areas. In the town of Postojna, a special institute of the Slovenian Academy of Sciences, which studies Karst. For a man is important, however, in a negative sense, poverty karst water. Although rainfall in the karst areas falls a lot, the river on the ground in some places completely absent. On the stretch of coast from Rijeka to Kotor length in a straight line about 400 miles, only four rivers reach the sea. Most of the precipitation seeps, river flow is below ground, using the caves and other cavities. Of all the karst phenomena are best known and attract special attention to the cave. The inventory of caves of Slovenia has one of the caves in 2550, one Postojna - Yama is visited annually by 600 thousand tourists (98% of them come here from May to September). The literature is common and is still not quite the right name: Adelsbergsky grotto (now we have a grotto understand something else). The cave is located one hour away by bus from Ljubljana, the capital of Slovenia. Tourists interested in geology, of course, will not fail to also visit the Postojna Cave - The Pit, which lies just 31 km south - west, near the railway station Divatsa.
