Noytgedaht-name villages, often occurring in South Africa. This is a Dutch word meaning: Do not think. Boers who settled here wanted to say that they found something totally unexpected, something that they "thought". Usually, this was probably the spring with good water or a place for watering. Since spring, apparently due and the name now abandoned, dilapidated farm, which lies west of Kimberley on the slope of a broad, shallow incised valley of the river Waal. It is difficult, of course, assume that the settlers, giving the place the name "Noytgedaht, thought about can be seen everywhere glacial scars, although geologists have already discovered in 1868 in South Africa, the first signs of the Paleozoic glaciation. However, from the standpoint of the geologist name is very well chosen: "thought" that in the heat of South Africa can be found traces of an ancient glacier! But such places are found not only in South Africa, the signs of ancient glaciers are known on other continents. But from the sites of ancient, Pre-Quaternary, glaciations is the most famous and most often depicted in textbooks. It is also unique in Africa and almost unique to the ground, pointed to a special shield. As far as I know, there is only one such board, even more than the original: in the valley Inmen in southern Australia, I saw a little tea "Glacier - Rock Tihouz" (tea "Glacial Rock") is the only restaurant to the ground, named for the disappeared a few hundred million years ago the glacier. Gudronirovannaya road that leads from the Kimberley na north - west toward Kurumana (town, referred to Livingstone, and therefore known) crosses the monotonous plains, covered with thorn bushes steppe with scattered here and there reddish mound and individual shapeless lumps of gray lava. Lava This is a very ancient Precambrian; geologists refer her to a series of Ventersdorp. 25 km small shield on the road indicates a geological monument of nature: «Glacial pavement» («glacial pavement"). From the main highway is just a few kilometers to the pitiful remnants Noytgedah - that. In the distance shines expanse of the river Waal. But next to the ruins of the burning rays of the sun also shines like a huge mirror is slightly convex, smooth-polished outcrops of lava, looking more closely, it is easy to see fine lines parallel scratches, which extend to the north - west is the famous glacial scars Noytgedahta. Flat rock humps, elongated in the same direction as the scars in exactly the same as "kinky rocks, with whom we have met in different parts of the Alps and Sweden, recently covered by glaciers. These traces of the glacier so well preserved that the zoologist A. Wallace, a lot of trains, and many saw it, back in 1880 thought they were very young, namely the Pleistocene. Another proof of glacial scars are preserved on the wrinkled surfaces in places the remnants of strong moraine material. There are interspersed with small and large, partially covered with scratches and boulders. However, in most cases the moraine material is washed away. These deposits and their associated glaciers refers to the Late Paleozoic, Carboniferous and Permian (permokarboiu), graduated 200 -300 million years ago. In South Africa, this icing is usually called "dvaykskim" (the village and the river on a plateau Dvayka Great Karoo).
