The Acropolis of Athens can be closed until late October

Continue the strike of employees of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of Greece. On Wednesday, the strikers blocked access of tourists to one of the main attractions of Athens - the Acropolis. The next day, police fired tear gas to disperse the strikers and opened access to tourist groups on the Acropolis, but almost immediately the territory of the museum complex was again closed. According to RIA Novosti, the permanent staff of the Acropolis, out of solidarity with their striking colleagues, who have only temporary contracts, barricaded the entrance to the hill. And the police came under a wave of criticism in local media, where they were accused of excessive use of force. We remind employees of the museum complex to seek to conclude them permanent instead of temporary contracts and the payment of wage arrears. Striking workers plan to continue the protest, at least until the end of the month. It is unclear whether police will facilitate the passage of visitors. Currently, at the foot of the Acropolis on duty Special Forces. Culture and Tourism Minister of Greece Pavlos Gerulanos demanded from trade unionists to open the Acropolis, and promised to pay back wages, without mentioning, however, a specific timeframe.
