The history of excavations at Knossos

If the ruins of the palace at Knossos after the earthquake were not covered with thickets and strata of the earth, they are unlikely to have survived to this day. It so happened that chipped ground opened buried treasure in it, waking the imagination of all seekers of antiques. The first to start serious archaeological work on the hill of Knossos, was a scholar of Heraklion Minos Kalokayrinos. Thanks to him, in 1879, was produced 12 pitosov. Later this place was called the Western Warehouse. After the success of the Greek started this war for a place to dig at Knossos. He fought for the Americans, Frenchmen, Germans and Englishmen.
